R6700 router setup as access point. Cannot update firmware
I setup my Costco R6700 as an access point. It is running firmware V1.0.0.26_10.0.26. I would like to install the updated firmware that addresses the VU#582384 vulnerability. I downloaded the zip fil...
Update. The previous message/question was for a manual update of the firmware.
I just tried the built-in update process and that worked. Wo Ho!
In the past I had no success with the automatic update - usually always getting the "there is no new firmware for your device" (paraphrasing).
This time it worked. So all is good and as a bonus all of my settings were unaffected.

Sooooooo glad to hear your settings were unaffected. I have been avoiding the update because I didn't want to go through all that.
So let me make sure I understand the difference. (No a networking person.)
You went to the Update firmware on the genie and updated rather than download the zip file. Correct?
That is correct. My first try was to download the zipped firmware file, unzip it and upload to the router. This method partially started, then the connection was reset and basically failed to update.
I then clicked on the check for updates button on the Advanced->administration->Router update screen. This found the updated firmware, downloaded and installed it (including rebooting the router).
Thanks. That worked much better. Three minutes later, router seems to be it's old quiet self over there in the corner.
If you were to pass these instructions along to some one else, I would suggest you add.
"click on the Backup settings button (just to be safe), then check for updates button on the Advanced->administration->Router update screen. This found the updated firmware, downloaded and installed it (including rebooting the router).
I, however, didn't do that. Saw it while I was sitting there waiting for a reboot. Mine went just fine also. The idea of writting down all the setting is omiunous. Clicking a Backup settings button has a higher probability of being used. I agree, it is always good idea to write down settings any time. But most of us choose to live "dangerously" so to speak.
