R6700v3 firmware 1.0.4.118 caused connection problems

Hey DarrenM...just gave the trial firmware a go and reporting in. Unfortunatly the DNS reload issues have not been resolved. Same as the.118 and .120 versions. The speed limiting issues have been resolved however. I have backed out the trial firmware and downgraded back to .106.

Same issue, I wasn't paying much attention to the speed issue as I was the DNS problem, still there. Back to the .106 version but thank you

Yes, right after I bought my R6700v3 Router in April this year, I updated to the .106 version and it was fine. I wish I NEVER updated it to the latest .118 and then .120 firmware... I only did it because Netgear Emailed me saying "We've Enhanced Your Product's Security.
Please Update to the Latest Firmware".My Ethernet connected PCs seem to exhibit the DNS issue often, sometimes I need to refresh my browser 5 or 6 times to go anywhere! Our Wireless connected Android phones don't seem to do it that often.
I can't beleive Netgear hasn't fixed this...

Revert FW version back to what was working in meantime.

This morning I installed the latest update R6700v3-V1.0.4.122_10.0.95 and the problems seem to be fixed. Still testing though. But I can move between web pages without having to reload constantly. In fact I haven't had to reload a web page once since the install. Fingers crossed that this is fixed (at least for my Win10 computer).

Here's hoping it works for everyone!

OldDog61 - Thanks for reporting on your experience with R6700v3-V1.0.4.122_10.0.95
I am a bit hesitant to try installing it just yet. Hopefully others more adventurous than I am will report on their experiences installing it.

Here's my experience with the upgrade. After the upgrade I had to manually reboot the router, now I cannot get back into the router to see what version firmware I am running. Netgear Genie app keeps showing login times and the Nighthawk app showing the same thing. Netgear; I don't pretend to know all this technical crap, us consumers depend on you folks for it. I can honestly say Netgear products are in my rearview mirror. I have rebooted several times, both router, pc and phone. I cannot get back into router.

If you're still having that issue of connecting to the router then a factory reset may be in order.

- jimfacteauDec 27, 2021Tutor
I did, it took me 3 factory resets to get everything back, then I had to redo all the network names, passwords etc on printers, range extenders etc. In short the entire process sucked and best of all I am still having some website connecting issues with the TLS handshake

Gave the latest R6700v3-V1.0.4.122_10.0.95 a shot just now. Unfortunately I received the same results I did from the .121 trial firmware that I tested from DarrenM. The DNS issues are resolved still, but as soon as I apply the firmware update my internet speeds are reduced in half. 500Mb down to 250Mb. I have again backed out the latest firmware and gone back to version .106 :(
- cochese187Dec 27, 2021TutorYes same here this is the most dumbest thing it cuts my BW in half also. Have to sacrifice security for speed. I thinks it about time to switch to asus for me... Netgear has no ambition to fix these issues at all
- OldDog61Dec 28, 2021Guide
So maybe I got lucky with the new firmware?
I don't believe in luck with tech so maybe it was a combination of things.
I simply installed the driver and waited for the router's Admin logon screen to come back, logged in and verified the install, then rebooted my computer. And I no longer had the DNS issues and my 400/20 Mbps service I pay for is giving me 460/23 Mbps right now (speedtest.net). My MTU isn't dumbed down to 1472 and my boys say their games and minecraft server work fine and without issues.
My computer is a pretty cheap 5 YO computer store custom build:
Windows 10 21H2 (build 19044.1415) 64-bit
AMD A8-6600K APU
8 GB Ram
Chrome browser
I hope those of you with firmware issues are able to get them corrected.

as a follow up, I am trying to install the .106 firmware version seeing as this latest one is still an issue. Since the update, resetting and rebooting I can no longer log into Netgear Genie to revert back to the older firmware. The nighthawk app doesn't allow you to revert only go forward on updates. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Asus is on my horizon!
