R6900 wired OK; wireless NOT OK

Hi all,

I was using the router as an AP where all was fine, but just now configured it to be my gateway. (Replacing failing Centurylink "modem" on Fiber internet service). My wired connections are all good, albeit a little slow (169/128 down/up, when they should be >800) but my wireless connections on ios are not working at all. I connected wirelessly to my PC, instead of the wired, and it was OK, but iPhone and iPad are not connecting.

I've got most advanced features turned off, using SmartConnect and have set up a Guest network which behaves the same as primary. The router is in the next room, signal strength is full, but throughput is almost 0. All status indicators are good; I have rebooted many times in the course of trying things.

Will you please share any ideas you may have regarding this problem?

Thank you,

b

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

I would power OFF the ISP modem for 1 minute. Factory reset the Orbi router and power it off. Power ON the ISP modem and let it sync.

The first move when introducing a router (old or new) to a different internet service is a "factory reset" to wipe out any settings inherited from an earlier service.

Do that and the restart the whole shebang in the right order.

Be sure to reboot your network in this sequence:

    • Turn off and unplug modem.
    • Turn off router and computers.
    • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on computers and rest of network.
