R7000 AC1900 smart wifi router update firmware

Thanks for the advice.
I discovered the difference between firmware versions because the power on/off button was red, and sometimes
white, but on and off white. I read that this was a sign of bad internet.
The router is 8 years working now. Should I replace the AC7000 by a new router ?

  What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
  
  I would ensure the ISP services and modem are in good working condition first...

    the router is connected to ARRIS TG2492LG-85 modem.

  I don't know where you read that. The power LED will change as the router boots up. If it doesn't settle down to a solid white LED, you may have broken firmware. But that isn't a transient thing. After the boot sequence, the firmware, and router, is ether dead or alive.

  If it still works, and you don't have any real problems, that's your call. The R7000 was never the most advanced router in the shelves, but it has been a reliable workhorse for many people. And as you have found Netgear continues to provide security updates.
  
  You could look around to see what features you could get with a new router.
