Received Netgear security email to update firmware. Using the mobile app, it says that there is no update needed. According to the app, the current firmware version is 1.0.9.88_10.2.88 which is not...

Do not use crappy apps for firmware updates, unless you want a bricked router
Ditto for WiFi
Use a wired connection to the router at http://192.168.1.1
You can get the latest frimware from: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/r7000.aspx
For the R7000P it's https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R7000P.aspx
You talk about the R7000 but have listed the R7000P in your model field. Which is it?

I'm not sure where the 'P' came from. I actually did exactly what you said (used my desktop) but I didn't have links-just searched until I found the update. I downloaded it, then uploaded it and the router supposedly rebooted, etc. However, after all that, I still have the same firmware version I had before. Do I have to be paying for support for updates to work?
