I don't know about your problems but for me, going to 1.0.5.70 fixed my nightmares.

I was having speed issues on my wireless 2.5Ghz.  My speeds were all over the place.  I think it had to do with trying to downgrade firmware and the GUI staying the same version no matter which firmware I tried.
