R7000 Firmware
I have a R7000 running firmware 1.0.11.126. It should be getting 240mb download. It keeps dropping to 80mb download. Research indicates it is a firmware issue. I have downloaded 1.0.11.136 and tri...

I ran the speed test from my desktop, An ASUS 500TD, running Win 11 Pro that is connect through a 1gb switch to the R7000.
I do speed tests at Spectrum Internet Speed Test: Broadband Internet Speed Check
Looks like I will be sliding down my basement steps, one step at a time.

Well, I have completed as requested. I used the erase function to reset to factory defaults. The reset worked, as I lost all of my settings.
The first thing I did was test internet speed settings. Was still 80MB down.
I then tried to update the 1.0.11.126 firmware to 1.0.11.136
Firmware upgrade is still failing.
This is getting frustrating.

Same message as before?
The install starts and runs for about 15 seconds, the it says session closed.
There's another option you could try. There are five firmware versions between 1.0.11.126 firmware and 1.0.11.136.
There have been times when firmware updates are seriously dramatic, involving major changes to the router's memory. Later updates won't stick without those memory tweaks.
I doubt if that is the case here, there is usually some sort of warning. And they accompany big changes on the features front. None of that has happened recently to the R7000, but you will lose nothing by trying.
If the update really does refuse to go anywhere, you may have to resort to one of the brute force approaches, like TFTP.

Still need to find out what the brand and model of your ISP Modem is.
I recommend to make this a bit easier for you in your after work health condition, if your ISP modem has a built in wifi and a router, turn OFF The NG router and use the ISP modem services for now.You might have a friend, neighbor or family member come over, if any one of them has some experiences with troubleshooting routers, to help you out to see if the R7000 router issues can be resolved or if the router is just gone bad. Have them take the router to there place and test it out to see if it works there or if the problem follows.

Recommend you go to the Windows Play store and install and use the Ookla stand alone test application. This removes the web browser application from the mix.
Upgrade failing... Failing specifically how?
Are you trying to update via the user interface firmware update option or manually by downloading the firmware file and uploading it to the router? https://kb.netgear.com/23960/How-do-I-manually-update-the-firmware-on-my-NETGEAR-router
Confirm your computer is connected to the router via an Ethernet cable?
Are the network interface drivers on your computer up to date? Remember there are separate Wi-Fi and Ethernet drivers.
What web browser (specifically by brand) are you using to update the firmware?
Have you tried using a different web browser? Options include Edge, Chrome, or Firefox.
Have you cleared the cache on the web browser you are using?

I have made a little progress. By troubleshooting many wired computers, I discovered one of my 1GB Netgear switches needed a power cycle reset. I am now getting the expected 230 mb download speed.
I still have not reconfigured my router after resetting to defaults.
I have tried upgrading firmware from 1.0.11.126 to 1.0.11.136 again. Again, it starts, runs for about 15 seconds. The stops with a session closed message. Note, at this point a speed test drops to 4mb download. So, the firmware update is crashing my R7000. I then reset the router and I am back to 230mb download.
The check for downloading a firmware update does not find any new firmware, Yes, I have already downloaded the firmware from Netgear. I just browse to locate it with Edge, then try to upload.
Yes, everything is wired.

That's in line with the general advice whenever anyone hits a problem on their network.
While some people are fixated on getting network cables with a go-fast stripe down the side – I have seen no evidence that this works – the first call, which comes even before reset the router, has to be Reboot the network.
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
After all, this is a hassle free move that can do no damage to your network and its settings. It can even mend things, as you have discovered.

For most people, it seems, it won't
That is a broken system.
I just browse to locate it with Edge, then try to upload.Browse from what? The browser graphical user interface (GUI)?
