R7000 new install. Getting 'no router found'.
I can see the router being broadcast on my phone, but it has no internet connection. It should connect to my existing home router. I cannot access the router using ANY of the methods mentioned. Route...

Hello. The second router is a normal Fritz Box. It's the household router. I intend to use the Nighthawk as a VPN router, if I can ever connect to it that is ! I live in Germany.

If I connect the Nighthawk directly to my PC via an Ethernet cable and Ping 192.168.1.1 I get no response.

You are just flailing around. Plugging random things into random sockets isn't going to work.
You need to understand what you are doing and follow instructions.
Some of these things are best left to a network professional.

Thanks. I previously had a TP-link AC1750 Router I used for VPN access. This worked fine until ExpressVPN pulled the plug on the L2TP support and it stopped working. It wasn't capable of supporting OpenVPN so I switched to this Nighthawk Router.

Do you know that the R7000 supports your chosen VPN?
If it does, it should be in router mode.
For that to work you may have to put your "gateway" into modem only (bridge) mode.
