R7000 Nighthawk AC1900 keeps resetting to factory settings randomly
Randomly occasionally turn on my PC to find that R7000 is blocking access to most webstires. The only fix appears to be to go to 192.168.1.1 and re-do the initial setup. It happened twice today,...

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Routers do not have a battery.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping.

I have no idea what firmware version other than it says there is no new update when I update.
Nothing has changed in this setup in years. I am hardwired from the pc to the router, the router is connected to a modem/router combo from the cable company. The only change that has happened there at all ever is that my speed has gone up.
I have done nothing fancy with any settings of any kind. I ran the initial setup each time it happens and it's all default and router mode. There is no apparent trigger.

You can find the FW version on the routers management web page.
if the ISP modem already had a router, This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.- drbrettoOct 29, 2021Tutor
I can also do this, but I have been running it like this for like 5 years with no problems. Is there any reason to believe that this is the cause of my problem that has just recently started happening, or is this just a red flag that you're seeing and mentioning? I am not interested in going down a long and frustrating rabit hole. If I do that, I will just get rid of this router if it's not going to cooperate.
Have you ever heard of this thing happening spontaneously before?

I haven't.
You can search the forums here to see if anyone else has.
Not everyting is mean to work right all the time. There are factors in things causing problems. These needs to be identified. Try to help you stop the problem from happening again if we can but up to you.
Good Luck.
