Yes, the port forward setup is disabled when in AP mode. So, how do I get the unit to not block my UDP traffic to port 1434?

Port Forwarding is not supported in AP mode. Any blocking of ports will need to be configured at the main host router that the R7000 in AP mode is connected too.

That's the problem. The Nighthawk is blocking my access to the port forwarding and I don't have access to anything to correct this. So, how do I get the Nighthawk to not block my traffic?

In AP mode, the R7000 is attached to a router. As FURRYe38 says, the sort of thing you want to achieve is down to the router.
So, forget about tweaking the R7000, investigate how to do things in the unnamed main router in your network.
If you have problems, go back to your initial request:
There is a UDP port blocked that I need opened
Explain what it is that you really want to do – like getting a particular gadget to work – and maybe you will get better answers.
