R7000 Nighthawk Locks/Blocks CD/DVD Drive
Hello, R7000 Nighthawk updated to latest firmware within the past month. I don't know where to find the version via the Genie software, but there are no newer firmware updates available to me. ...

Hello Again Folks,
Yesterday afternoon, Netgear sent me an email wanting me to to test a new version of Genie. Upon opening my email today and seeing the notice, I downloaded and installed the updated version and put it to tthe test.
I am happy to report that I did not find any issues with this updated version of the Genie software!!!
I would guess that it will be made available for download soon.
Sincerely.

Obviously the solution is not to use the Genie app and to report the issue to NETGEAR so they can fix it.
That said, I find it hard to believe that the Genie app will lock your CD/DVD drives, or the R7000. The router itself has no access to your PC drives at all. Don't always believe third-party software in what it says
if you want to go back to a previous firmware version, just flash that version. There's nothing special needed. Just make sure to reset to factory default afterwards

Thanks for your response.
OK, I diabled NETGEAR Genie from autostarting and had no problems accessing data discs in my optical drive.
I started Genie, and could not access my optical drive (it went through the same routine of ejecting and asking for a blank disc).
I opened Unlocker, and Genie was again the culprit, so I unlocked the drive.
I could then access the data disc.
This is repeatable.
There were no applications running via Task Manager.
SO, the problem IS the Genie program. For what it's worth, my Genie program is v2.4.26.
I will look for a way to notify NETGEAR about this particular issue.

Hello,
I don't see a way to contact Support to advise them of my issue, without paying to do so.
If anyone has access, please forward my issue to them.
Thank you in advance,
Mike

Just learn to live without Genie. Real man does not use stuff like that. He can do everything with his own hands, LOL!
I never use Genie from day 1 when I picked up NG product. Now I just pretend there is no Genie out there. No wasting time
with frustration, peace of mind. IMO. Genie will never be a perfect product because new stuffs keep coming out.
People using other brand routers chugg along OK without omething like Genie. Oh, I just noticed Synology came out
with router manager V1. for their router.

Sure you don't need it, you can do about the same things with a browser. Still, if it is broke, it should be fixed. Some people may want to use it, so it should work, period.
I never use it myself, but I did test to see if the problem was real, and I had the problem. Don't now, but have no clue why?

I CAN CONFIRM this on my PC. Dell XPS 8700 with a Toshiba PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16AES and running Windows Genie 2.4.6 version.
Oddly if I put a R/W DVD already burned it isn't rejected if it isn't a bootable drive. All I see is a DESKTOP.INI ready to be written. A bootable drive is rejected with the Dialog box asking for a drive. Once Genie is EXITED the drive works fine and all files are readable.
Windows Genie isn't worth using it seems. Use a BROWSER instead.
ElaineM, can you report this problem.

I will forward this to our engineering team.
By the way, what's the Genie version?

We both reported it on Genie 2.4.26 version for Windows (I had a typo, 2.4.6 but it should be 2.4.26 as well).
