R7000 slow WiFi
V1.0.9.88_10.2.88
I'm having an issue with the WiFi speed of my router. My hardwired speed at my desktop is 224.67 mbps and my wife's laptop on wifi is around 36 mbps. All of my wifi around the house is slow, close and far from the router makes little differance. the best wifi speed i got, being six feet away from the router was 54 mbps. We first noticed it last night while watching netfix in the living room, a couple of times the picture quality got poor and pixelated. I tryed your reset (unplug everthing than plug back in) and my speed improved by 10 mbps, but still is no where near matching my wired connection. When i test the connection speed on my tv, it says 26mbps (yesterday, today 17mbps?), but it has always read weird numbers. I can stream 1080p Youtube vids no problem, I think the Vizio is just trying to ping Mars when you do a connection test. Just where are my wifi speeds supposed to be in relation to my hardwired speeds? I am in Phoenix, using Cox premier, where speeds are supposed to be up to 150 mbps. For the first time i think i'm getting better speed than i'm paying for, hard wired at least. We do have four Alexa devises, Ten smart switches, five smart appliances, three smart TVs(0ne on constant, one never on. I am looking into hardwiring them), three Ipads and two phones. My wife thinks I've overloaded the WiFi with the smart switches, and i have more to install, along with another dot on the patio, and were talking about smart speakers. Have I lost my mind?

Have I lost my mind?Ok, your footer states that you have a R7000P AC2300 router but the firmware you've headed is for the R7000 AC1900.
If you do in fact have the R7000 AC1900, then the firmware you're on is 5 firmware updates behind the latest 'hotfix'
https://kb.netgear.com/000063684/R7000-Firmware-Version-1-0-11-123-Hot-Fix
So now you need to work out which router you actually have, but I suspect it is the AC1900 model, not the one you have listed on your footer. If you have the AC2300 and you need the latest firmware, go to the correct download page and upload the latest firmware.
The next thing is, someone will probably come along and tell you to downgrade to a now almost 4 year old firmware because for some reason there appears to be a problem in some parts of the world with older routers. My advice is, don't do it because that old firmware version is now probably not very secure, but hey, it's your choice at the end of the day. Personally, I've never had an issue with my now 18 month old model which has seen around 7 firmware updates since I bought it and never had any issues with it.
If you do update, I'd recommend that you don't update over WiFi. Well you can do if you want, but let's see how that goes! My advice, only ever update via ethernet cable, disable the router WiFi before you start and unplug everything else bar the laptop or whatever other computer you use to do the upgrade. I don't recommend using the Nighthawk app to upgrade either.
Don't bother enabling router update, it doesn't work, well mine has never worked. I'd also recommend disabling logging and QoS. These are only recommendations, you should choose your own settings and use your own judgement. I would recommend setting up guest networks on both 2.4 and 5ghz, that way you can isolate certain connections, from iot devices to guests etc. I have guest networks set up on mine and they work well.
Don't bother with multiple resets or factory resets, there's no need. I've never once factory reset or done a reset prior to any of my firmware upgrades. Just save the firmware upgrade to your downloads, unzip it to your desktop and upload it within the router GUI. Once the router has finished uploading it, the router will automatically reboot itself, there's no need to muck about with it. It really is that simple and takes all of about 4 minutes tops. the nerve wracking bit, is waiting for the router to upgrade itself, you sit there for a couple of minutes whilst lights flash and you think nothin is happening. TOUCH NOTHING! just leave it to do its thing. When I read some of the things router owners on here have done, I wonder sometimes what it is they're up to.
Anyway, hope you get it sorted.
