R7000 Wifi issues

I've had my trusty R7000 for a few months now and it's done very well, up until maybe a month or so ago. All of a sudden my wifi performance took a nose dive, however it wasn't my bandwidth, seems like it's more latency. I'll run a speed test on my various wifi devices and they will show the speeds I'm paying for as well as normal latency (~10ms), however whenever I try to use an app on my phone while connected to wifi it would act as if my internet had terribly high latency. I've tried rebooting it, rolling the firmware back to the last version and turning QoS on and off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • So hitting the reset button solved my issues. Now I wish I knew what was causing it. Thanks for your help!

  • Okay so if the issue is happening to every device that connects to the Wi-Fi whether it's the 2.4 or the 5 bands it pretty much has to be the router correct? Do you think factory resetting it and putting the original firmware would help?

A factory rest would not hurt, it might help to rule out other possible issues, or more hopefully get you up and running happily again. However while the router might be a common factor for all your devices, so is anything downstream of the router.

I suggest that you save your current router settings to a file before a factory reset. After the reset manually configure the router with the minimum settings needed to check if the issue is gone, and if it has reload the saved settings and check again. If that doesn't help then consider changing the firmware.

  • Sorry it's not just the phone, I should have explained better, my desktop is also connected through wifi and it gets weird as well.

No problem, if you think there are delays then running a tracert on a PC (or the equivalent on a smartphone) should help identify where the delays are.

What specifically should I do with the tracert? Not sure what IP address I should put.

No I don't have the Genie app installed.

If it is just the phone which is showing issues, then I suggest that you install a ‘traceroute’ application on the phone to determine where the delays are.
