Lost both wifi channels 2.4 and 5 and am unable to update firmware (if that is the issue). Can't remember answer to a question.

Check the LEDs on the front of the device. The second one in from the far right is a combination indicator/switch. It is easy for the switch to be turned off by accident. If the LED is not lighted, press and hold the switch for two seconds and then release. Your Wi-Fi radios should come on.
If you have forgotten your password or the answers to the reset question, your only option is to do a firmware default reset and configure the router from scratch. See here: https://kb.netgear.com/9665/How-do-I-perform-a-factory-reset-on-my-NETGEAR-router
The term "Factory Reset" lost something in translation. It does not return your device to factory default values. It returns you device to the default values for the firmware that is presently installed. Doubtful if it is the factory firmware.
Recommend you update the firmware manually with a web browser hardwire connected to your router, not via a Wi-Fi connection or phone application. See here: https://kb.netgear.com/23960/How-do-I-manually-update-the-firmware-on-my-NETGEAR-router
