R7000P 2.4Ghz is slow

been noticing some extremely slow wifi speeds on 2.4Ghz with the R7000P.   I haven't changed any settings in quite awhile.

I have a 75/7 connection through AT&T uverse. I currently have the R7000P in a DMZ (router behind router) on the Uverse modem/router. I have wifi disabled on the uverse router.  I know I lose just a bit of throughput running it this way, but i hate the Uverse routers.

On 2.4Ghz, all of my tablets/laptops/phones/etc... are seeing about 18-20mb/s.  On 5Ghz, i'm getting worst case of about 35mb/s.

If i enable the uverse wifi, I get signficantly higher speeds, > 45mb/s on both 2.4 and 5Ghz.

I have tried enabling/disabling 20/40 coexistance, no change.

I updated firmware to: V1.3.2.134_10.1.66.  no change.

I removed all other devices from the wifi and ran just one laptop on it.  same results.

I disabled QoS.  Not using armor, or anything else at the moment.  Pretty basic configuration.  At this point, I'm contemplating removing it from the system and going back to the uverse direct, even though I hate that router (lack of controls, interface is slow, no remote access, etc...)

Any ideas?  read through every other post complaining about slow 2.4Ghz and nothing seemed to help.

  • bump?  I've changed antennas, reset the router, etc... still having major issues with 2.4Ghz.  5 is actually a bit slow on average, i.e. less than 50%.

i'm about to chuck it and throw my older asus back in.

      Hi bp787,

      Good day!

      Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

We are sorry for not getting back to you immediately. Was the wireless speed okay before or was it working before? When did the issue start? Have you tried downgrading the firmware?

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance.

      Regards,

2.4Ghz wireless speed dropped sometime over the last month.  I'm not sure exactly when as I normally connect to 5Ghz.  I have not tried downgrading, however I did do a significant FW upgrade after noticing the issue.  The last time I ran a speed test on it, everything was ok.

Now, to be fair, I decided to remove the netgear from the network and just connect to the uverse router.  It is having massive 2.4Ghz issues as well (worse even).  I normally leave the uverse's wifi off completely.

My neighbors 2.4Ghz wifi through comast is fine.  We're VERY close together, so i'd assume that if something in my house is impacting  2.4Ghz, that it would affect his as well... then again, maybe not.

it's very weird, though, that both routers are having 2.4Ghz issues.
