Decided to go with turning off the surfboard wifi so I didn't have to lose the Circle funcationality in the netgear router. So far so good with the change over. Will see if the issue is fixed. Thanks for your help!

Update on this issue. Had no issues all day yesterday until about 11:15 PM CST when the connection dropped. All the lights on the netgear router where showing white (no amber) yet the wifi connection was down. Power cycled the router. When it came back up the all lights were white except for the ethernet light (the one indicating that the ethernet port was in use) was amber. Ran the Genie utility to see if the software could fix it. Attached is the screenshot of the results. To fixed this, I reset the surfboard modem (SBG8300) on my ISP side (did not power cycle it). Issue resolved, wifi works.
30 minutes later (after I went to bed), wifi goes down again and was down all night. Same thing - no light indicating a problem. I reseating the ethernet cable in the netgear router (I was going to test if I had a connection to the modem by bypassing the router and going straight to surfboard modem). When I reseated the cable, the connection came back, issue resolved.
A few more clues (maybe), looking through the netgear router logs I found these entries before the 2nd event last night:
[DoS attack: FIN Scan] attack packets in last 20 sec from ip [23.199.51.203], Sunday, Aug 23,2020 23:51:29

What should I try next?

A couple things to try.
1. Is "Respond to Ping on Internet Port" checked? This can be found under >> ADVANCED >> Setup >> WAN Setup >>
2. try the sbg8300 in router mode and put the netgear in its dmz or the netgear in access mode.

No ‘Respond to Ping on Internet Port’ is not selected.
It's down again so I reseating the ethernet cable from the internet port on netgear router into the PC's ethernet port. Network connection was restored instantly to PC.
Reseated the ethernet cable to netgear router - now the amber light is lit on the internet port.

Try it. It can help with dos ping issues.

Still dropping the connection. No LEDs indicating a problem. Most of the time it is fixed by reseating the ethernet cable in the internet port. Don't need to power cycle modem or router to get the connection back. Should I try moving the router to the modem DMZ?

Update: 56 hours into replacing the ethernet cable and no dropped hardwired connections. Going to considered this solved. Thanks for the patience and help working through this problem!
