R7000P slow WiFi speed

Hi All,

I'm using ACT Broadband Internet of 500Mbps plan. With this I directly connected the Internet cable to my desktop PC and I'm able to consistently get more than 400Mbps speed.

However, when I connect any of my devices (Laptop / Android Phone / iPhone) to NETGEAR R7000P 5Ghz / 2.4 Ghz WiFi access point I get about 200Mbps speed which is less than 50% of my actual Internet speed. As part of troubleshooting this issue I've tried following and nothing seems to help improve the Internet speed via WiFi.

1) Upgraded router firmware to latest available version - V1.3.3.154_10.1.86

2) Dynamic QoS is Disabled

3) Enable WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia) settings (2.4GHz b/g/n) is Enabled

4) Enable WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia) settings (5GHz a/n/ac) is Enabled

5) Parental Controls is Disabled

6) Traffic Meter is Disabled

7) "Enable Implicit BEAMFORMING - Boosts WiFi speed, reliability, & range for all mobile devices" is Enabled

😎 "Enable AIRTIME FAIRNESS - Prevent network lag when slower devices connect" is Enabled

9) "Enable MU-MIMO" is Enabled

10) 2.4Ghz Channel is Auto

11) 5Ghz Channel is 40 (but I've also tried using 36, 42) after checking the signal strength

12) "Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence" is Disabled

13) MTU Size (in bytes) is 1492

Please let me know if there is any other setting I can change to improve the Internet speed over WiFi.

Also, I had checked soon after I had bought the router 2 years back and I was able to consistently get 400Mbps plus speed over 5Ghz. I've upgrade firmware on the router couple of times since then and I never bothered to check the Internet speed in between. But, recently when I checked the speed I noticed this issue. I'm not sure whether this is due to the new firmware or some other issue.

Any help to resolve this issue is much appreciated.

Thanks,

-Ravi

  • Hi All,

After changing couple more setting in the router now I'm able to get the desired speed over WiFi:

    400Mbps + speed over 5Ghz

    180Mbps speed over 2.4Ghz

Here are the settings that I changed to optimize WiFi speed:

    1) Go to - Advanced -> Security -> Block Sites -> Keyword Blocking and choose Never

    2) Go to - Advanced -> Security -> Block Services -> Service Blocking and choose Never

    Thanks,

    -Ravi
