try using tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw
and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

thanks for the reply
i tried all the steps on (https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP)
1) but couldt make it past step 12 it said that it 'could not read from local file'. im not sure what to do after that?
2) I also tried the video and I couldnt make it work unless im missing something. i dont know if i need to input a password or what else.

That can happen if the firmware file isn't in the right place or your TFTP command is wrong.

What didn't work? The video? TFTP?
TFTP isn't the easiest operation, so if you are forced to use it try a web search for videos that guide you through the process.
Here's an embedded link to the video.
Different device, but the approach is the same.If you have problems, then a complete "printout" of the TFTP session might offer some clues.
