I can't update the firmware because the instructions I find on the Netgear site to do so don't seem to be applicable any more. Something has changed since the last time I had to work with an R7000P since Covid.
What does "don't seem to be applicable any more" mean? What happens when you try?
Here is a link to the latest firmware:
R7000P Firmware Version 1.3.3.154 - NETGEAR Support
It has instructions on how to update the firmeware.
Your version dates back to 2018. That's six years ago. A lot has changed since then.
There are times when you can't jump all the way to the latest and have to go through intermediate versions until you find the one that "unsticks" the process. One change over that time may have been the switch over to the mobile Nighthawk app and the death of the mobile genie. I can't remember. I have kept my R7000P up to date.
This is the best way to go about an update:

If you cannot use a web browser to get at the graphical user interface (GUI) on 192.168.1.1 then it may have given itself a different address because it found something else on that address, another router for example, or a modem that is also a router.
I don't know which genie this is. It could be one of several things, the browser interface, a Windows or Mac program for a PC, or a mobile Android/iThing app. Netgear labels them all as genies.
The PC program is "end of life" but some of us still like to use it. It should still be here:

Be warned that the genie installation file is wrapped up in a RAR archive that you have to decompress.
