R7900 Nighthawk

After several years on the shelf, and previous attempts to get good performance, I'm trying again to get some use from the r7900.
Has anyone gotten any decent performance from this model? I've started from scratch several times, the install goes well, but the performance is really bad.
It works good if I'm in the same room. If I go 15ft away, it's really bad. I don't think it will ever do well unless I knock down all the walls.
Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like some background reading on your part is in order.  A good place to start is here:

The first few sections would be a start.

I understand what you suggested. This issue seems hardware related. Other devices in the house work fine. I've had it for a few years, tried resurrecting it on a occasions, checked firmware, etc., it still drops of in line of site at 10-15 ft.
It is what it is, no sleep lost.
