Thanks Aspirant, the issue is with wired, not wireless, and the solution seems to have been to disable QoS. We are now up to a Line Speed of 42.56Mbps and Download Speed of 5.32Mbps on a 100/40 connection. I understand it should be up towards 80Mbps, however this can be due to cable connections that are over 20yrs old. At least I have had a vast improvement by disabling QoS.

Disable QoS, access control. Make sure that the enable 20/40 coexistence box is checked in router
settings under the advanced tab; I think its checked by default.
I had a significant speed drop when the 20/40 coexistence was unchecked. Btw, are you on the latest
firmware? What speeds are you supposed to get from your ISP?
Also, did you get a higher speed on 2.4 or 5? Check it on 5 if you haven't yet. 5 is usually less crowded and
can provide higher throughput. Is there any network interference in your home from your neighbour or
home devices (cordless, microwave, bluetooth phone etc)? Play around with the channel number to see
which suits you best. if you have inssider app or something similar, you can check channel number used by
your neighbours and then can select a less crowded channel.
If your issue still persists, do a hard reset.
