In post 3 I gave you a suggestion to follow, You have to solve the wired problem first. Reset to defaults, and test, same problem contact support.
The reset to defaults is done by pressing reset util power led flashes, see manual if still unsure of that process.

Settings: Security protocol-- WPA2-PSK [AES]; WMM--Enabled; QoS--Enabled; Speed mode--no idea, this is all new to me and shouldn't this thing be easier?

For the time being disable QoS. Speed is the WiFi speed it is like up to 800 or upto 1333. etc. Set it to maximum number.
Fo information QoS makes speed slow donw 5 - 7%.

Speeds are set to the max. I tried disabling QoS, and saw no difference in performance. After re-enabling QoS I then also tried disabling WMM and that also made no difference. Each time the Nighthawk reset which took a few minutes, so I'm pretty sure I am doing that right.

Are you testing wired connection? Those settings are for wireless.

All the changes were made and then tested using wireless. I only used the wired connection to the modem to establish that my TWC service was indeed sending me 50mbps which I was paying for. And I tried wired through the router to see if there was any difference between the wired vs wireless the Nighthawk was putting out.
