r8000 nighthawk speeds
I have a netgear r8000 nighthawk router, and its always worked fine. I just upgraded my data service to 500mb down, Ive done a speed test remotely from the nighthawk app on my phone and also from the spectrum website (ookla) ect. I only get 300mb. NOW if i unplug my router and go directly into my modem, same test shows 500mb. There are no updates avalible when checking router firmware. Any advice welcome. what would cause it to cap out?? should i just buy a new router and forget about beloved netgear???

What speeds do you get wired into the router?
Since the upgrade, did you try a factory reset? Sometimes old qos or settings can cause issues after a speed change.
That device didn't have the fastest wifi. You can check the testing done by smallnetbuilder and it was roughly around 300mbps on average.
