R8000 Problem with connection in 5GHz mode using Smart Mode Connect
Hi, I have a Netgear X6 R8000 router and in the HP ProBook 4740s laptop I have an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC7260 network card that supports the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands. How to FORCE the laptop to connect to the router ONLY in the 5GHz band; I can't turn off the 2.4GHz band in the router because I have devices that only work in this band. Unfortunately, Intel PROSet Wireless software does not have such a possibility - forcing the connection of the network card only in the selected frequency range or I cannot find this setting. I really want this one device (the most important for me) - the laptop to always connect to the router in the 5GHz band. There is no such possibility from the computer side - maybe the router has such an option? How to set a specific device to connect only in the 5GHz band?

You've got 2 options.
1. Disable smart connect and set separate ssids for each band. Then you can manually put devices on the band you prefer.
2. The intel AC7260 has the option to prefer 5ghz. go to your device manager, open the ac7260, and its under advanced---->prefered band. You could try that.
