    Found the page to download at this link.  I learned to review security advisories and then search for the specific firmware revision.  

    R8300 Firmware Version 1.0.2.144 | Answer | NETGEAR Support

     

    I needed to download it because each time I allow it to apply automatically my router locks up and hangs until I clear it again

Sometimes the firmwares get uploaded to the auto-update server before they do to the manual server. 

And sometimes its swapped and the manual gets it first. 

I have no idea how they choose which or why they do.

      Christian_R please check why this .144 isn't part of the official downloads - according to the KB it was published 01/08/2021 | Article ID: 000062764 - so the possible idea coming into my mind that it might have been revoked. But the, it's in the live update ... so more likely it has not made it to the official downloads.
