R8500 — NIGHTHAWK X8 AC5300 SMART WIFI ROUTER UPDATE WON'T LOAD
Trying to update from v1.0.2.122 - Android App shows v.1.02.160 is available but update doesn't work - failure message with no code - just offer to try again later.

Try the manual FW update as suggested here:
Seen problems with updating FW using the NH app...not really recommended.

Not helpful. The login link takes me into the netgear website to my account. Once there, I seem to be going in circles on the website.
You would think they would have a link to simply download the update.

Yes - I have multiple files from that download - one is a google link which takes me back to the page and the other is a .chk file (Recoverable File Fragments) which is not an executable file.

Do not attempt to run that .chk file.
Use a web browser and PC and log into the routers web page and send that .chk file using the router web page:
