Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

Did you factory reset the R8500 with it not connected the ISP modem and see if you can complete the setup wizard. You can manually set it up with a PC and web browser.

No.
"Bricked", a meaningless term that get thrown around willy nilly, usually means corrupt firmware. This shows up in the state of the power LED. If it is solid white, then it is not bricked.
To check this for yourself, read the manual.
Visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
Check the section in the manual Troubleshoot With the LEDs.
.can not log into router with ip and not seeing internet although led says it does so can't use web site.It isn't easy to understand that string of "sound bites".
What is this router IP? (There are various options.)
What LED " says it does"? What colour? Blinking?

all the leds are white with wifi blinking....the ip i used to get in is the default gateway 192.168.1.1, this got me in but when i went to advanced it went to 404 error, backing out to home it came up 404 error and that was that...when i connect the modem all leds white and acting normal but no internet connection thought led says it is so it might be seeing the modem but not letting anything thru or me in....can a router "lock up" so to speak?

What FW is loaded on the router?
What browser are you using? Try MS Edge or Firefox or Opera
Be sure to clear out all browser caches before entering into the routers web page.
