R9000-Defective 2.4ghz chipset
Hi There, It would appear that my 2.4ghz radio/chipset is dead on my R9000. It happened right after flashing to the latest firmware file. I know this router is 3+ years old, but is there any...

You might make contact with NG support to see if they have such a service. Might incurr additonal costs for support though.
Another option if the router can't be repaired is to disable the wifi radio on the router fully and connect up a external 2.4Ghz wifi AP for 2.4Ghz signals. Or even turn off both radios and connect up a newer dual band AP ethernet connected to the router. Can connect up another R9000 in AP mode or find something like a Orbi system or anything to run in AP mode while using the R9000 has the main host router.

Did you do a factory reset after the firmware upgrade? You can try that, and if that doesn't work try reloading the previous firmware manually and see if the previous firmware revives the 2.4g chipset. Let us know what happens.

I fully reset the NVRAM as outlined in this post: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R9000-AD7200-x10-Firmware-Ver-1-0-5-24-kills-WiFi/m-p/2086350/highlight/true#M189250
And there's no purpose in hooking up a separate AP to keep this router in place. The freaking thing cost $400+ when new. It should last more than 3yrs.
It appears that the flash somehow fried the 2.4ghz chipset....This is not a one-off instance either. Netgear knows about their design flaw in this router.

Try loading Voxels Fw on the R9000 to see if it might recover the unit.
Well its possible it may not be a design flaw or possible something just burn out the radio. Not a lot of post reporting this problem. You seem to be the only one. Why would you not connect up a external AP to keep your 400$ router working. If it's working accept for the 2.4Ghz part, it's not that expensive to connect something up to take over the load. :smileyfrustrated:
By all means, contact NG support and see what your options are.
