R9000 X10 Dropping Connection Speeds
Hello, so I am about to buy a new router because I cant figure it out whats going on with my router. X10 R9000 works most of the time but also at reduced speeds. I do have a gigabit connection never ...

That 100M/Full status on the WAN port should be the current focus.
I am going to push again to make certain your cables are good.
Also, Ethernet port hardware has been known to go bad over time. Either in the router or the modem.
Is the firmware current? Both modem and R9000.
How long has it been since your modem has been reset?

- leandroestacioDec 24, 2022AspirantRouter Firmware VersionV1.0.5.42Reset as full reset it's been a while. Cables will try them. funny thing is that it works for sometime just by turning it off and back on (reset) the router. Sometimes can take days to happen again, sometimes takes like right now, 5 min

Just restarted it again with different cables, from modem to router and also replaced the cable going to the computer. Im getting 1000 reads in the statistics but
DOWNLOAD Mbps642.97UPLOAD Mbps41.84which is a little odd, because the cable I am using from the router to the pc now is the samecable I was using from the modem t the router where I brought a 5 pack on amazon. Now I replaced the cable going from the modem to the router with a
Cat 8 Ethernet Cable 10 ft Shielded, Indoor&Outdoor, Heavy Duty High Speed Direct Burial 26AWG Cat8 Network Wire, 40Gbps 2000Mhz SFTP Patch Cord, In Wall&Weatherproof RJ45 Cable for Router/Modem/Xbox
so if wan doesnt drop again to 100m could mean that the cables I brought from amazon is giving me issues
Amazon Basics RJ45 Cat-6 Ethernet Patch Internet Cable - 5-Pack, 5 Foot (1.5 Meters).
will wait until I do some more test, could take a day or two.
So to recap what I did so far.
Removed one out of the 5 pack I brought from amazon from the modem to the router, here is the cable:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01INRUFGK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
replaced the cable from the modem to the router with:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VK89XHP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
then because I dont have another cable atm I picked out a second cable from the 5 pack and plugged from the router to pc.
so far no connection drop, but slower connection than what I was getting. Will run some more tests and if with in few days doesnt drop Ill replaced all my amazon cables.
So for now thank you very much for your support Kitsap.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?
Something to consider as well for the R9000,
I got one of these for use with the SFP port on my R9000:

Works great.

after replacing my cables, connection is stable ever since. Just ordered more cables and replacing them all.
Thank you. Saved me from buying a new router... at least for now 🙂

Good to hear it is working well. It is not unusual for the devil to be in the details. You just have to find which one!
I bought one of the SFP port adapters FURRYe38 recommended. It works well.
As long as you do not need any of the newer generation Wi-Fi, hang on to that R9000. It is a Gem.

One option you have is to take the router out of the equation and connect your computer direct to the modem. You will have to power down both the modem and computer to do so. Then boot the modem first before the computer.
Recommend you install the Ookla native throughput test application. It is in the play store. This takes the web browser application out of the mix.

good advice, thanks. will try that too. But because restarting the router fix the problem temporary, Im leaning towards there is something wrong with the router. I believe the router is around 5 years old

Before you decide to get rid of that R9000, you could flash it with Voxel's firmware.
Here is the link to the Voxel web site: http://www.voxel-firmware.com/Downloads/Voxel/html/index.html. Be sure and review the Readme file link at the top first. There is also an active Voxel group over on Small Net Builders forum here: https://www.snbforums.com/forums/netgear-ac-wireless.53/
The Voxel firmware is basically a polished version of the stock Netgear offering.
