Trying to configure my new Nighthawk not having much luck. I am trying to use it as my second Router. Changed the IP ranges to different ranges of my current router but it goes back to the default ra...

Hi, The first Router is a tp-link AX5400 VX420-G2V. Sorry but how to put the RAX into AP Mode? Also do I need to run the Internet Setup Wizard after I connect the LAN-WAN Cable to RAX?
So far it has been running OK today I mean DHCP has not dropped on me like last nite and gave me an APIPA. The RAX decided to setup on a 191.168.0.1 network although I initially changed it to match my AX5400 network but with different DHCP ranges that did not seem to take.
The AX5400 is on a 192.168.1.1 and interestingly enough I can talk to the AX5400 network from the RAX network but not the other way around. If I try to ping 192.168.0.1 from AX5400 it gets a reply from a 10.20.x.x address and "Destination net unreachable" message. I am thinking some static routes required to push through the other direction or the Windows Bitdefender to blame? Thanks.

OK I switched the RAX to AP mode and now I can get to my main router with 192.168.0.1 but I don't know the IP of the RAX in AP Mode. If I disconnect all ports from the RAX and hookup a Laptop to a port, ipconfig shows me a 169.254 address. Does AP mode switch off the DHCP on the RAX? So how to get to the Router login on the RAX now?

When the RAX is in AP mode, the primary router assigns it an IP address. Log into your primary router and look at its attached devices page. It should show the RAX and what IP address it assigned to it. Use that to access it.

Thanks found the RAX sitting under 192.168.0.16 now and seems to have a dynamically assigned IP and I cannot fix it's IP. Anyways I went back to Router Mode on the RAX and sit on 192.168.1.1 seperate network - hope nothing falls over, conflicts etc. and OK to run like this. Also tried the Bridge Option.
One thing I have noticed is that regardless of what Mode I choose on the RAX, my direct connect download speed on the RAX is now half of what I get with direct connect to my main AX5400 router. iPhone WiFi speed is fine however only the Ethernet connect RAX speed I can't explain the difference.

This is the sort of thing that you get piling on router after router.

And messing around with IP addresses is not going to get rid of those conflicts. It is more complicated than that.

The tp-link VX420-G2V seems to be a modem/router with voice support.

As with all these things, the AX5400 but tells us about the wireless technology. There are several tp-link AX5400 models.
Putting another fancy router to site behind an already fancy router seems a bit like overkill and causes the problems you experience.
The two basic strategies for getting two routers to play nicely together are, as plemans suggested. to put the second one into AP mode or to put the first one into bridge mode.
Your choice depends on what you want your network to look do. If you need wifi from the modem/router, then the AP mode route is best. But that wipes out some of the key features on the RAX70. Only you know if they are important.
If you are happy to have the RAX70 as your wifi source, then bridge mode would be the easiest to manage.

plemans has explained one way to find the IP address, another is to look for the IP address of its wifi SSID.
In either case, the desktop genie for your operating system can be quicker than the main router's GUI.
If you want yo make life simpler in future, you can fix the IP address on the router in AP mode. Then you can always go to that IP address to get at the GUI.
