RC7900 as base for mesh network?
Is it possible to use a Nighthawk X6 (AC3000 Triband Router) as the base station for a mesh network? I'm currently in an old (lath and plaster, brick) three-unit building with several wired access po...

Thanks. As soon as I posted, some other similar questions, with similar answers, that I hadn't seen on an earlier search, popped up. I think II'll have to accept that my router won't work as a mesh component and maybe upgrade my APs as necessary. I'm just trying to minimize the amount of new equipment that I need to buy and decide how much CatX cable I need to run while the walls and ceilings are open. There's a good article in the current Consumer Reports that suggests some standards for different size houses/users and I guess I'll have to walk around with network analyzer and see what I've got.

If you're going with a hardwired backhaul, I'd check into the MK63 system. Its a dual band system which isn't as fast as the tribands when using the wireless backhaul. But with a wired backhaul? They function pretty solid. And they're significantly cheaper than the tribands.
you could go R7900 (router mode)---->MR60 (in access point mode)------->MS60 satellites
Then you could use the R7900 to offload a few devices off the system like IoT devices or streamers that are close to the main router.
