You tried all the intermediate versions?
Which version do you have now?
What happens when you try to update? Any messages?
Sometimes there are really big changes that won't work if you try to jump too many versions on one go. You have to find the one in the middle that allows the big shift.
For example, this can happen with a major change in features, adding Armor for example. Something to do with h9ow the firmware manages the memory.
As it is the R8000P is now pretty old (2017) by router standards.
...It never gets past the 1.1.50 firmware.
I assume that this is 1.4.1.50.
Just another user with time on their hands.

try following the work-around for that version.
Solved: R8000P V1.4.1.50 Update workaround - NETGEAR Communities
that one had a firmware that couldn't be changed and users were having to send them in to be replaced. But that was years ago. Not sure if they're still doing that. DarrenM
