I would look at the KB articles for ReadyShare and USB Drive features and instructions:
Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Cable Modem products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Cable modems and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this router forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

I should clarify that my router is running firmware version 6.01.07. I have tried resetting the router, my compter, etc. I have tried changing the read & write access to password protected and then back. None of this worked.

Have you set up the desktop drive access by opening the share using Opt/K on the mac and SMB connect to the share? This should put a share drive icon on the desktop.
Any chance you have a different PC, like Windows to try this with?

I had already tried that but I tried it again just in case. I'm still getting the same error. Sadly I do not have another computer to try this out on. My MacBook Pro is a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), Processor: 2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 of Memmory. I don't know if that will help out but I wanted to provide any information that I can to help resolve the issue.

What OSX version is the Mac running?
Are you accessing the drive using this proces?
