Thank you for replying so quick. Let me attempt to answer your questions:
1. what modem/gateway are you connecting to?
It is the modem supplied to me by my ISP with their brand on it.
2. what firmware is on the R8000P?
I am not sure. It shows it needs an update, But I cannot get on the net to update it.
3. Is this a new purchase? or what changed?
No, I bought it in 2000. I tried to use it before and it just wouldn't work for me so I just used my ISP's service. I am just now trying to fix it since I have the time. I am also trying to punch the signal outside of the house hence the extender. But I agree with you. I am concentrating on the router for right now.
4. if its new, you get 90 days of free support through netgear from date of purchase.
They weren't much help when I bought it and I simply got frustrated with it. I was going to hire someone to come out and fix it, but that takes almost a house payment...
To get a hold of support. Click on "MyNetgear" at the top.
Register an account (or login) and then the device.
From there you can start the support process. Keep in mind that its only free for the first 90 days.
5. What extender do you have? AC1900 is a model
AC 4000 Tri-Band WiFi Router Model # R8000P
I'd focus on getting the router connected and working first. then worry about the extender.
Agreed
If you have a simple modem, power off the modem and router and disconnect them from everything for 2 minutes.
the connect the coax back to the modem and power it on.
wait 2 mintues
connect the modem to the wan port on the router and power the router on.
Wait to minutes.
Attempt setup on the router.
No Luck. Did this 2x with no success. I have pluggedf my computer directly into the router and still cannot get online.

I am not sure. It shows it needs an update, But I cannot get on the net to update it.---A firmware version number helps. And you can update off-line manually. but its nice to know what version you're starting from.

AC 4000 Tri-Band WiFi Router Model # R8000P---that'd be the router model. You put you have an extender. what extender is it?
