Apr 03, 2023Router keeps dropping connection
I am at my wits end with this. I have BOTH, an Orbi AX4200 system, as well as a Nighthawk R7000P. I had some many ongoing issues with the Orbi dropping connection (both wired and wifi) that I gav...

So with the R7000P router online and the Orbi system turn OFF, the NH router drops the internet connection?
When this happens does the top Internet LED turn AMBER?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

Apr 03, 2023Alrighty so. Im going to break this into two messages so it doesn't delete on me again.
"So with the R7000P router online and the Orbi system turn OFF, the NH router drops the internet connection?

-The R7000P and Orbi are both turned ON, however the Orbi is in AP mode and the NH is being used as the router.
-When I arrived home the internet was still down however the amber light was NOT on, it was still white. Pulling the WAN cable coming from the ISP modem into the NH has been the easiest and quickest way to reset it. Everything immediately reconnects after that.

The ISP Modem is a Sagemcom F@st F3896 . It is located in the basement as I have no coax run in the house. Two CAT5e lines are run from the basement to the 2nd floor where the NH router is located. I have tried switching between both but have the same disconnecting issues on both.

-This isnt strictly a wifi issue as all connections are dropping, including wired. However currently the Orbi AX4200 is set to 2.4Ghz: Ch6, 5.0Ghz: Ch48

What mode is the modem working in Gateway or modem only mode? Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

It is an intermittent issue so just turning on the wifi and waiting for a drop is not really a viable option. Also it was the introduction of some heavy downloading right before the WIRED connection dropped that made me feel as though it may have been the culprit.
Though I dont know why heavy downloading would cause the connection to drop and refuse to reinitiate.
