Router losing settings after losing power

I have been reading on hear extensively about Nighthawks issue with losing all setting during a powerdown or power outage.  I have been experienceing this for the last year and I am just about ready to toss the router.  I am asking the question again because I never saw if there was a fix for this issue from the posts I read.  My router is a R7850-AC3000 tri-band.  I did see someone say they used Openwrt and it fixed the issue, but when I looked at openwrt, my model number was not listed, just the R7800.  It was also not listed at dd-wrt either.
