Router Web Page refuses to connect after updating settings
Hi,
I am using a Nighthawk D7000v2 as my main router.
When I change settings on the router via netgear genie (router web page), most of the time it will refuse to connect after updating.

This must be some new meaning for "the latest". I see
"V1.0.0.53_1.0.2" on the server.

Relying on Netgear firmware to "Check for new version from the
Internet" is like relying on Netgear firmware for anything -- the result
is often disappointment.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads. (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".) Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want. Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.

That's not the common meaning of "reset" in this context.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look for "reset". It's far
from a sure thing, but it's possible that a settings reset (and manual
reconfiguration) would help in this case. (Restoring saved settings
could restore old problems.)

But yes, that firmware version agrees with "v2". (Netgear "Community"
forum organization and administration are on a level similar to its
router-firmware quality.)

It's worth a try, but a reproducible error is always easier to fix,
and a bug which never gets formally reported may never get fixed.

I'd start with the newer one, and than start working backward.

I disagree, but it would bother some users more than others.
(Especially those with remotely operated equipment.)
Netgear routers have some history of management web servers dying
with little or no provocation. I don't recall reading of any cases of
this on a D7000v2, but that proves nothing.

I'd say not. My D7000[v1] (currently V1.0.1.70_1.0.1) is not
bug-free, but can't remember ever catching its web server dying.
Generally, if that happens, it's a bug.

Is the issue that you update and cannot connect until a reboot. That to me seems like a very minor issue if that is what you are talking about. I have had routers in the past that would not work correctly until a reboot after firmware update. My thinking, which could be totally wrong, that there is info in the /tmp info that is not correct after the update. A reboot clears the /tmp directory so those files get rebuilt. How Linux works which is the base for these.

Thanks for your response.
When you change some settings in the genie and click apply the router will update settings (e.g. changing DNS servers)
Other setting changes will reboot the router (e.g. VLAN/Bridge settings).
In this case I was changing DNS servers.
Yes this is a minor issue, but it means if I change settings I need to go to the router and power cycle it.
Maybe my expectation is too high for a consumer grade router.
