The total distance is approximately 100 feet. In my garage the cat5 cable from my house is plugged into the Netgear NightHawk R6900v2. I get great wireless signal in my garage. But, I have a Sonos speaker that is hardwired into the Netgear router that is extremely temperamental. Sometimes it plays for 3 minutes, sometimes it plays for hours, and then drops out and loses reception. I have changed speakers to verify it isn’t the Sonos, and it happens with multiple speakers. All cat 5 cable tests good. The Netgear works seamlessly on wireless, but regardless of WiFi or hard wired, the speaker doesn’t like something about my set up. Both of my routers have the same password. Please help as this is extremely annoying. Do I have the wrong idea of using 2 routers to extend my internet 100’ away? Is it a router setting?
Based on your description, you are connecting your R6900v2 router to a TP-Link router and the two devices are fighting each other on your network to provide routing functions. An all too common issue that creates a situation known as Double Nat. This is not as the devices were designed to be connected and used.
Here is why: https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-double-NAT-and-why-is-it-bad
The best solution is to log in to your R6900v2 user interface using a web browser on a computer and configure the device for Wired Access Point (WAP) operation.
Details on configuring your router for access point operation are provided in the user manual. The manual can be downloaded from the Support area at the top of this page.

Thanks Kitsap.
I have the Netgear set as an access point. It has been running in that mode for a year or more. I did not make any advanced changes in the router, I only switched to run as an access point in the bridge/AP setting within the router.

With your Netgear router configured as an access point, it depends entirely on your TP-Link router for IP address assignment and various other settings. There is not much left in the Netgear router for settings. Reference here: https://kb.netgear.com/26765/Which-features-are-disabled-on-my-NETGEAR-router-when-it-is-set-to-AP-Mode.
Sonos hardware has a reputation of being finicky for connections. There may be something in the TP-Link forums.
