I have the Netgear set as an access point. It has been running in that mode for a year or more. I did not make any advanced changes in the router, I only switched to run as an access point in the bridge/AP setting within the router.

With your Netgear router configured as an access point, it depends entirely on your TP-Link router for IP address assignment and various other settings. There is not much left in the Netgear router for settings. Reference here: https://kb.netgear.com/26765/Which-features-are-disabled-on-my-NETGEAR-router-when-it-is-set-to-AP-Mode.
Sonos hardware has a reputation of being finicky for connections. There may be something in the TP-Link forums.
