Setting for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies

Hi. I am having trouble connecting to my work VPN suddenly. It was suggested that I configure the network to allow my laptop to select both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies, rather than defaulting to 5ghz....
