And netgear sadly doesn't give a **bleep** about their customers. There are multiple threads about this and not a single tech support person on one to offer help. They're a disgusting company and I'm never buying a router from them after I have enough money to get a new one.

Yes. That's the whole point.
routerlogin.com is the IP address for the browser's graphical user interface (GUI).
When you get into that address you can try the favoured way of updating firmware:

Preferably do this with a wired link into the router's Ethernet.
