Password recovery does not work unless it was configured once, common long standing issue...
NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 DST Router and DST Adapter Model R7300DST User Manual p.204 shows for the factory reset:

To restore factory settings:Factory Reset hole and button
1. Insert a paper clip into the Factory Reset hole and hold it for two seconds, and then release the button.
The Power LED blinks green.
All the LEDs turn off after 3 seconds, and then Power LED lights solid green for about 30 seconds.

Do the LEDs reflect this on your device?

Thanks for the reply.. It helps if you plug the network cable into a LAN port and not the WAN... So i'm in configuration now.
Trying to set the R7000 in repeater mode but I don't see the option of Advanced Setup > Router/AP/Bridge/Repeating Mode as stated here https://kb.netgear.com/24108/How-do-I-enable-the-extender-mode-feature-on-my-Nighthawk-router. This is a netgear support article.
Do you know if an R7000 supports repeater mode? If so, where do I find it? This community article says repeater mode does NOT exist..
I'm so confused..

The manual explains how to do it, but this feature may have been removed in later firmware.
AP mode may still be there, but to get bridge/repeater mode you may have to revert to an older firmware from before when they removed this feature. That might reduce the device's security, but you lose many features in anything but router mode and your existing router may provide enough protection for your needs.

Hard to imagine a KB article (ID: 24108) dated or updated 06/08/2020 for the R6700, R6700v2, R6900 and R7000 isn't appropriate.
There were features removed from the R7000 - but no word from this. "Starting firmware version V1.0.9.88 for the Nighthawk AC1900 (Models: R7000), following legacy features have been removed: iTunesServer, Kwilt Photosharing, Time Machine Backup, TiVo support for media sharing, DLNA, and Downloader feature (which was in beta)."

If reading carefully, this does talk of the R7000P ... which is not the same router like the R7000.

And then again, the R7300 is not an R7000.
