Two r6700v3 routers, with the 2nd as Wi-Fi extender

I setup two routers, one as the main and one as an AP for Wi-Fi extender. I want them both on the same network, but in doing so, the 2nd router signal is weak. I can use the system as is but I have to change networks when i move the lower floor. How do I set them both to the same network?

  • Problem is they aren't mesh devices.

You can set them with the same ssid but devices won't roam between the 2 devices as efficiently as a mesh system like orbi or MK nighthawk. Even netgears mesh extenders when hardwired in and setup in AP mode, get their smart roaming features disabled in AP mode.
