I've recently been running into wifi-connectivity issues and decided to do a factory reset on my router. However, before doing the factory reset, I noticed that when I tried to check for a firmware u...

You can ALWAYS manually do the update. Your firmware is quite old, but I don't recall having a problem like that with any version of firmware, INSTRUCTIONS HERE...

Windows 10 has a HOTSPOT feature. You might have that on? From a CMD prompt (Windows Key + R and enter CMD and press enter) enter netsh wlan show all. If you see HOSTED NETWORK enable and data then this is sharing your SSID. Otherwise another router nearby is using the SAME SSID... a Program like ACRYLIC will show you SSID's that can be seen. If you have the router on and see 2, well, there is another one.

I have the R7000 Nighthawk AC1900. I've connected to the Netgear genie on my laptop and it encounters the same error when searching for firmware updates using the Netgear Server.
I've tested connection on multiple devices(phone, tablets, laptops) and they all have internet connection connected through wifi.
It's not a major issue in my eyes, as I know I can just manually update the firmware when I want. I was just worried because when I first purchases the router, I never encountered this error.

What version of the firmware are you running? What OS are you on? What is the EXACT error returned?

AngryBenko Tried downgrading my router to 1.0.4.30 and used the auto firmware update through the GUI and I didn't experience the problem.
You may want to factory reset the router or you can always upgrade the firmware of the router manually by downloading the latest firmware.

Thanks for the tip on ACRYLIC, what I thought to be my old SSID coming from my Nighthawk router was actually coming from my OLD router tucked away in a box.
