Unable to connect to WiFi after SSID Change on R7900

Product: Nighthawk X6 R7900

Firmware: V1.0.4.46_10.0.53

OS: iOS, Android, MacOS

I recently changed the SSID and password for this router. After updating the SSID and password, none of the devices that were previously connected are able to connect to the router via WiFi. The wired connection works, and the router is connected to the internet successfully. I do not currently have access to any devices that were not previously connected to the WiFi network, so I can't test to see if new devices can connect or not.

I have attempted to "forget" the old SSID on my devices and then reconnect, but the connection still fails. If I intentionally enter an invalid password, I get a message that the password is incorrect, so I know that my devices are communicating the with router and that the password check, at least, is working. They will not connect. Occasionally my Android device will show that it has connected, but the connection drops within 10 seconds and the re-connection cycle starts again.

I reviewed many other posts in this forum and elsewhere online and have attempted the following, all to no avail:

  • Forgetting the old network
  • Power cycling the router and devices
  • Factory reset of the router
  • Changing the router's Internet Port MAC address
  • Setting the SSID and password back to the previous ones
  • Rolling back the firmware version
  • Re-upgrading the firmware version
  • Switching WiFi channels
  • Disabling/Enabling individual radios

I am at a loss for what to try next. Thankfully, the wired connection is working fine, but not all of my devices support wired connections or are close enough to the router for that to be practical.

Be sure that WiFi Protected IP address is disabled on Apple devices.

If you set WiFI security to NONE, does any wifif device connect then? After checking this, re-enable WPA2 and AES only on the router.

    Is Smart Connect enabled?

    Try setting manual channels 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 or 149 on 5Ghz.

    Be sure WMM is enabled.

What Brand and model is the ISP modem the router is connected too?

      Thanks for the response.

      • For "WiFi Protected IP address" are you referring the MAC address privacy setting?
      • Setting security to None does not allow devices to connect
      • I updated the channels as described - no material effect; on the rare occasion that my Android would establish a connection it did seem to last slightly longer (maybe 30 seconds) but it always failed again
      • Smart Connect was disabled; I enabled it and tried again, but to no effect
      • WMM is enabled for all bands

My building provides me with a single wired connection, and I have my router plugged into that. I don't know what the hardware is on the other end, unfortunately.

Interesting...not connecting at all to the router with no WPA enabled.

Yes, on iOS, disable this setting.

So no devices are getting connected to the router at all and not getting any kind of IP address from the router on the device?

Or are they connecting and just not getting any internet services?
