Unable to get full download speed on R7800
I recently upgraded my internet package through Spectrum and got a new modem.  I was getting around 120mbps and upgraded to 500mbps.     With the modem connected directly to my PC with network cable,...

It was the QoS settings... and the built in speed test used to determine the download and upload bandwidth, "Let Speedtest determine my internet speed (recommended)"
That test kept giving back a 120Mbps Down, 6 Up result and forcing the router to 'cap' at those speeds. So, I changed to the "I want to define my internet bandwidth" option and entered 500Mbps and 30Mbps (what my plan is supposed to max at) and NOW I actually get closer to those speeds over the R7800.
Never did make it as far as resetting to factory default... once I noticed those odd QoS settings, I knew I'd found the problem.
As for why the "built in" speed test gets those awful numbers... someone at Netgear ought to look into that and maybe consider changing providers.

The R7800 isn't a modem. It doesn't have docsis internal. and its capable of 1 gig wired speeds no issue.
