What modem/gateway is it?
- The modem is Model# TC8717T. I don’t know what you mean by gateway, the provider I use is spectrum internet.
the TC8717T is a modem/router combo device. its not strictly a modem.
Unless you have it in passthrough/modem only mode (not all device implement properly) it can put you in a double nat.

options?
1. put the TC8717T in modem only/pass through mode
2. put the netgear's ip address in the TC8717t's dmz
3. put the netgear in access point mode.
just use one of those modes.
