Very Low Download/Upload Speed with Nighthawk R7000

Hello All,

So, I recently upgraded to Gigabit internet as a company finally ran lines in my neighborhood. At first, things seemed totally fine. Straight out of the gate, going to my PC and running a speed test returned expected results, about 1000Mbps up and down through Ookla and a more realistic ~600/600 through Cloudflare's speed test. However after about a month, my speeds most often sit anywhere between 250-400 down and around ~10 Mbps up (via Ookla). Being connected directly to my fiber ONT via ethernet (using the same ethernet cable), I still get my expected results, but they tank to ~300/10 again as soon as I re-connect to my Nighthawk via ethernet.

I have reset my ONT, factory reset my Nighthawk, enabled IPv6, ensured Netgear Armor was disabled, connected via VPN (Cloudflare WARP & Nord), switched between suggested, Google and Cloudflare's DNS. I am currently on Firmware version V1.0.11.126_10.2.112. Is there a recommended Firmware version for me to downgrade to to test? Any other recommendations/advice would be incredible. I've already ordered a new router in the interim to figure out if that truly is the issue, but I'd prefer to stick with Netgear if possible.

Thanks,

Aaron

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the CAT# lan cable between the ONT and router? CAT6 is recommended.

Are you wire or wireless when speed testing?

What devices do you have all connected to the router?

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

    Try this?

      Hey FURRY,

All ONTs provided by this ISP are Nokia branded. I believe the model on this is Intertek 5015579 although there is no obvious model number listed.

The patch cable between the modem and router is Cat6. This is another possible solution I will be testing once I receive the new router.

      Everything I do is wired.

We have 4 devices connected (2 phones, a Desktop and a PS5). I always check my router's current connections, and no one has ever connected via WiFi besides us. I've done loads of testing with my desktop being the only device connected to the router. I just ran a speedtest while connected to the Nighthawk and got 348 Mbps down and 10.8 up which is my high for the day. I then ran a test connected directly to the ONT (with the same ethernet cable) and it showed 849 down and 936 up. I'm not connected to any VPNs and the router is currently running with factory default settings after resetting it this morning.

Are those speeds your seeing and testing with using the onboard speed test app on the router or a external speed test app on the PC like Ooklas installable speed test app?

Only items I found that can cause a slow down thru the router is having Armor, Circle or Traffic Meter enabled on the router. Also found that the onboard speed test app doesn't give accurate results.
