VPN services

Can anyone help? I'm not the greatest with tech stuff! I am living in France and want to get UK Tv on my Tv. I have been lead to believe that buying a new router and a VPN subscription I can do this? I have got so far and hit a brick wall as it were. I have got into the router and changed the settings as per the instructions on the web site and nothing? I have a R6700, Nighthawk AC1750 Smart WiFi Router and a subscription to NORDVPN. Any suggestions would be greatfull recieved. Regards Kelvin3112.
