VPN set up for Nighthawk AC2300 - R7000P

I am having trouble importing my VPN profile into the OpenVPN module to connect my VPN with my Nighthawk router, it wont connect. I tried using my iPhone and I get as far as uploading the .ovpn profile file but it wont add it due to an error. Anyone have any troubshooting suggestions?
